Eye movements as the key to healing

EMDR

Eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) Therapy uses eye movements or tapping to access unprocessed thoughts, beliefs, emotions or physical sensations to work through how these are stored

What should i expect with EMDR?

  • During these first three phases of EMDR, individuals are provided a rationale for treatment while working to establish a therapeutic alliance and gather pertinent information that could help the reprocessing. The assessment is a crucial aspect of this treatment in identifying key elements that will aid in reprocessing

  • In this phase four, five and six individuals will use Bilateral Stimulation with tones, taps or eye movements to reprocess painful memories. Working through the installation phase will also help individuals maintain the gains that have been made in the reprocessing phase. The body scan is final stage of reprocessing (phase six) and is used work through residual responses to painful memories

  • The closure phase of treatment is used when sessions are closed unresolved or when there has been a resolution in processing the targeted memory. The eighth and last phase of EMDR treatment is Re-evaluation in which progress is re-visited
